Yesterday I rewatched the animated film “Spirited Away.” It turns out that this plot is quite interesting to examine through the prism of immigration.

At first, you enter an incomprehensible society with incomprehensible rules, which holds many dangers for an immigrant simply due to a lack of understanding of local customs.

Then you find a proxy: someone who can explain how everything works here, will stand up for you if necessary, give advice, and introduce you to the right people.

Then you meet people and look for work.

Then you get a job and gradually begin to confidently handle your work tasks.

Then it turns out that your foreign background provides you with certain advantages that are useful to the locals, and then you are accepted with respect, without being required to undergo full assimilation.

Further along the plot, the protagonist triumphantly returns to their homeland, enriched by new experience, but let that hope warm those who still believe that the government in their home country has not yet completely turned into pigs. As for me, instead, I am simply preparing for a new immigration, where everything will start all over again.
