Of course, everyone has heard that the Libertarian Party in the USA is increasing its electoral success. Over 3% in the last presidential elections, occasionally appearing libertarian governors, senators, and congressmen—in short, a quite respectable and actively growing political force.
Why is there no charismatic libertarian leader in the USA? And why is there no charismatic Republican leader? For the exact same reason—the system is designed so that charismatic politicians achieve electoral success, while parties are led by capable administrators.

Do libertarians from different countries communicate? Yes, although not as actively as one would like. There are international forums, such as Liberticon, there are local conferences with foreign speakers, such as our Adam Smith Readings, and there are private contacts.

Why look far, when just recently a Kuzbass activist traveled to Poland, met with the libertarians there, and upon returning, posted a review text on how things are with the Poles.

Direct coordination of efforts between libertarian parties of different countries is not yet observed, so we make do with the exchange of ideas.

Does justice exist?

I would define justice as the outcome of a certain chain of events in which adherence to libertarian principles brought profit, and non-adherence brought loss.

People, as a rule, want to live in a just world. Since not all events in a person’s life are linked to their own efforts, they occasionally find themselves in a situation where completely irreproachable behavior leads to sad consequences. Various curious mechanisms, such as afterlife retribution, karma, and so on, are used as a means of psychological defense against such frustrations.

In other words, a person is free to arrange events into a chain in an arbitrary manner, and it is quite natural for them to do so in a way that the outcome of events in the chosen chain turns out to be just. Lived peacefully, suffered from an offender, continued to live peacefully, then a river carried the offender’s corpse past — justice prevailed. Lived peacefully, suffered from an offender, died. Now they will surely be rewarded for a righteous life, and justice, once again, will prevail.

So — yes, justice exists, and it exists in people’s heads. Just as the state and other mental constructs exist in people’s heads.

The hardest part about romancing a libertarian girl is actually finding one. If you already have someone in mind, ninety percent of the task is done. After that, you just need to study her consumer preferences and understand at what cost you will be able to satisfy them… no.

But, most likely, you won’t find a ready-made libertarian girl within a reasonable timeframe and reasonable vicinity, and you’ll have to indoctrinate whichever girl comes your way. To increase your chances of success, pay attention to those who tend to use logical argumentation in disputes, love reading long-form articles, and don’t too actively project to the outside world that everyone in life owes them something.

How can party membership help with all this? Well, unless your local branch organizes various team-building events. Involving girls in them eases indoctrination, but increases the probability that the girl will find a more interesting libertarian, and in fair competition, the market will decide.

I see a strange inconsistency in this question…
If you want to create and detonate a nuclear bomb, then why ask how to avoid it?..

Let’s imagine that the question sounds like this: “I want to buy a firework and set it off. How should I proceed?”

The answer will be simple.

  • First, you need to find someone who will sell you a firework so that you can set it off.
  • Second, you need to find enough funds to buy it.
  • Third, you need to find a site where it can be set off safely for others.

And once all three conditions are met, you have the opportunity to set off your honestly purchased firework at that site.

And libertarianism simply allows you to replace the word “firework” with the words “nuclear bomb” in the boundary conditions of this problem, with full confidence that no other conditions are required.

Why join the LPR at all?

I am asked this question quite often, usually with an underlying meaning of “well, convince me to join!” For example, Mikhail Svetov answers this question in his interview.

Good attempt, but no. Let’s not confuse the concepts.

I very much want you to become my supporter. You will receive a wealth of recommendations on what to read regarding libertarianism, economic, ethical, and legal theory. You will be able to discuss this substantively with others in chats, at meetings, and in debates. You will receive recommendations and other assistance when applying for a weapons permit. You will be helped in the event of conflicts with the state repressive apparatus. You will be able to join many interesting activities yourself, or involve others in some activity. There is much of interest around me, and it is in you, my supporters, that my strength and pride lie.

But joining the party itself means regular work on a voluntary basis. Here, it is not enough to be a libertarian, not enough to have a desire to educate others in the libertarian spirit, not enough to have a desire to support the party — you must have sufficient time, energy, and talent to do this regularly, and moreover, in constant interaction with other people who have their own ideas about what to do and how to do it. If you were fired up by the idea of joining the party, convinced me to accept you, and then burned out six months later, and now you can’t even be dragged to a regional branch meeting — then you joined for nothing. Now I will have to spend energy transferring you to the supporters, where you belonged from the start — otherwise, your passivity will disrupt the work of the democratic mechanisms, damn them.

So it is not I who needs to convince you to join the party. It is you who will have to convince me that you are not just a libertarian, but that you also understand what you are getting yourself into.
