3.1.2. Problems Around Us

It does not matter exactly how states were formed. Perhaps it all began when a nomadic bandit settled down and imposed a tribute on the surrounding people. Perhaps it began with natural authorities gradually institutionalizing their influence. And in some places, perhaps it even began with founding fathers deciding to establish a government based on certain principles. What matters is that at this point, states have turned into a tool through which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else.

As a result, the state is very deeply rooted.

First, hoping to receive something from the state, a person will recognize its right to impose rules, claiming only to make these rules more beneficial for themselves personally.

Second, if someone escapes from under the state’s yoke, they risk incurring the wrath of those who did not, as they are convinced that the state will now take its revenge on those remaining in its power.

Third, the imprint of state norms is borne by literally all the fruits of civilization. If the state were abolished, it would turn out that literally everything would have to be redesigned for a new anarchic order. And during the transition period, one would have to deal with the fruits of state tradition, and who knows if their use would lead to the restoration of statehood, since all practices are already so well tailored for it!

For example, the institution of marriage registration is passed down to us as a legacy from the state. Or the land registry. Or city planning. Or subsidized industries. How can we abandon this immediately? Everything would collapse. And if we do not abandon it immediately, some bureaucrats are needed for the transition period. Where is the guarantee that temporary bureaucrats will not become permanent ones? Perhaps, instead of rejecting the state, we should limit ourselves to gradual improvements?

Paternalism has been written into our heads since childhood, and literally everything that surrounds us is made within the framework of one political process or another. If there is no support either inside or outside, how can we overturn this world?
